LS Cable & System announced on the 17th that it had been selected as the preferred bidder for supplying submarine cables to the Haesong Offshore Wind Power Project, the largest offshore wind power development project in Korea.

Also, LS Marine Solutions was selected as the preferred bidder for laying submarine cables for the same project on June 12. Accordingly, the two companies will carry out the entire process, from design to the production and laying of cables.

The Haesong Offshore Wind Farm will be built on the sea near Heuksando, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, with two 504 MW offshore wind farms for a total capacity of 1 GW. It is the largest offshore wind power development project ever undertaken in Korea, and is expected to be an important milestone for achieving the country’s energy transition and carbon neutrality goals.

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), a global green energy investment and development company, is in charge of investment and overall project management for the Haesong Offshore Wind Power project, while Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), an offshore wind power developer under CIP, is carrying out project development work such as licensing and technology development.

LS Cable & System, in cooperation with CIP/COP, has successfully participated in the Changfang-Xidao (595 MW) and Zhong Neng (295 MW) offshore wind power projects in Taiwan, and Jeonnam Offshore Wind Farm 1 (96 MW) in Korea. The company is expanding this collaboration, and has been selected as the preferred bidder for the Fengmiao offshore wind power project (500 MW) in Taiwan and the Taean offshore wind power project (504 MW) in Korea.

Based on these global partnerships and experiences, LS Cable & System expects to successfully and reliably supply the Haesong offshore wind power project while continuing to strengthen its competitiveness in the domestic and international offshore wind power markets.

Park Seung-gi, head of the Domestic Energy Sales Division of LS Cable & System, said, “With the Haesong Offshore Wind Power Project, the synergy between LS Cable & System and LS Marine Solutions can be maximized. We will strengthen our supply competitiveness for offshore wind power projects and contribute to the development of Korea’s renewable energy industry.”

“The Haesong Offshore Wind Power Project is an extension of our agreement with LS Cable & System, whom we have collaborated with for many years through projects in Korea and overseas,” said Jonathan Spink, CEO of COP Korea. “We will continue to expand our collaboration with Korean suppliers to grow together with the local community and contribute to the energy transition.”

Kwon Ji-an, head of the Supply Chain Strategy Team (managing director) of Haesong Offshore Wind Power Co., Ltd., said, “This agreement is an important milestone for localizing the offshore wind power industry and stabilizing the supply chain. We will take the lead in building a sustainable win-win model and enhancing Korea’s technological competitiveness through collaboration with not only LS Cable & System but also Korea’s supply chain.”
