LS Cable & System announced on the 17th that it has won an extra-high-voltage power grid project worth approximately KRW 140 billion from Singapore's power authority. The company will supply 400 kV and 230 kV cables.
With the expanding demand for AI and cloud services, Singapore is accelerating new investments in eco-friendly, high-efficiency data centers. This also requires ramping up efforts to upgrade power grids and expand power transmission infrastructure.
LS Cable & System, with its subsidiary LS Eco Energy, has maintained the No. 1 market share for extra-high-voltage cables in Singapore since 2010. The two companies cemented their position as core suppliers by taking part in the construction of Singapore's national power grid based on their technological prowess and project execution experience.
The only company in Korea to commercialize high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) and extra-high-voltage submarine cables, LS Cable & System is now proving its technological competitiveness in the global power grid market. So far, it has secured HVDC projects worth approximately KRW 2.5 trillion in Europe.
The company recently began expanding its business scope into the AI data center power infrastructure market in cooperation with its affiliates. LSCUS, Gaon Cable's US subsidiary, has accelerated its expansion into the North American market with a series of recent long-term busduct supply contracts worth trillions of won with global big tech companies.
"Due to the replacement of aging power grids and electrification stemming from the proliferation of AI, we’re now entering a power infrastructure supercycle that will last more than 15 years," said a company spokesperson. "Accordingly, it’s becoming more common to sign supply volume contracts several years in advance. Our order backlog currently stands at over KRW 7 trillion, which is an all-time high."
"Competitiveness in the AI era ultimately comes down to power infrastructure," said Kim Hyung-won, head of the Energy/Construction Business Division at LS Cable & System. "Based on our competitiveness in everything from AI data center transmission grids to internal power distribution solutions, LS Cable & System will continue to lead the global market."
