LS Marine Solution (CEO Kim Byung-ok) announced on the 30th that it has signed a formal contract with Tersan Shipyard in Turkey for the construction of a submarine cable laying vessel.

Under this contract, LS Marine Solution will build an ultra-large HVDC (high voltage direct current) laying vessel with a cable loading capacity of 13,000 tons and a total weight of 18,800 tons. The vessel will be the largest in Asia and in the top five globally, and will be equipped with high-spec equipment capable of simultaneously laying HVDC submarine cables and optical cables.

This vessel is designed to minimize connection loss, especially in long-distance and deep-water areas, and is equipped with technology optimized for building HVDC power grids. Currently, there are only three vessels in the world with these specifications, and LS Marine Solution will become the only company in Korea with the relevant capabilities.

LS Marine Solution plans to use the new cable laying vessel to participate in strategic projects in Korea, such as the West Coast HVDC Energy Highway, and to respond to the demand for offshore wind power and ultra-long-distance submarine networks in Europe and North America.

The vessel is scheduled to begin operation in the first half of 2028 after a construction process of approximately two years. LS Marine Solution plans to operate a global turnkey order system encompassing design, production, and construction in conjunction with the LS Green Link submarine cable plant in the United States.

Tersan Shipyard specializes in building marine vessels, fishing boats and special-purpose vessels, and is recognized as a leading European expert in the construction of special vessels related to renewable energy. Another key factor in signing the contract with this shipyard is that it has production infrastructure optimized for large special-purpose ships and the ability to ensure stable on-time delivery.

“This investment will be a turning point for the company to go beyond simply securing equipment and strengthen its competitiveness in global power infrastructure,” said an official of LS Marine Solution. “We will secure a clear leadership position in the explosively growing submarine infrastructure markets, which include HVDC, floating offshore wind power, and digital submarine networks.”
