■ To handle entire process from design to installation, reaffirming turnkey capabilities
■ Accelerating expansion into KRW 20 trillion Asia-Pacific submarine power grid market
LS Cable & System announced on January 27 that it has been awarded a turnkey contract valued at approximately KRW 60 billion by Tenaga Nasional Berhad, the Malaysian electric utility company, to construct a submarine power grid.
This project involves installing a 132 kV submarine cable system to connect the Malaysian mainland with the island of Langkawi, one of the country's premier tourist destinations. IT will expand the power infrastructure of the island and ensure a stable electricity supply.
Through this contract, LS Cable & System has once again demonstrated its advanced turnkey capabilities. The company will not only supply the cables, it will also manage the entire project lifecycle, including system design, material procurement, cable laying, and construction.
LS Cable & System secured the bid against stiff competition from several global firms. One decisive factor was the company’s proven engineering expertise, particularly its successful completion of the previous Langkawi 1st Project.
By winning this second project, LS Cable & System has validated the trust and superior competitiveness it has established in the region.
Currently, Southeast Asia is actively pursuing the ASEAN Power Grid initiative, which aims to interconnect national power grids. This has created significant demand for large-scale submarine power networks.
According to industry data projections, the global submarine cable market will reach approximately KRW 34 trillion by 2030. The Asia-Pacific region, with its numerous islands, is expected to lead global growth, accounting for KRW 20 trillion of this total.
LS Cable & System plans to leverage this latest international success to strengthen its global reference portfolio and aggressively target the domestic market. In collaboration with LS Marine Solution, the company hopes to showcase its unrivaled turnkey synergy in upcoming large-scale national projects, including the West Coast Energy Highway, for which bidding is expected to open in the first half of this year.
“We are building trust in the global market based on our accumulated technology and project execution experience,” said a spokesperson for LS Cable & System. “We are committed to solidifying our leadership in the submarine cable market by using our proven turnkey capabilities to successfully deliver critical infrastructure projects both at home and abroad.”
