LS Cable & System and LS Marine Solution have been selected as preferred bidders for the submarine cable supply and construction, respectively, of the Haesong Offshore Wind Power Project in the waters off Sinan, Jeollanam-do.
The companies announced on the 19th that they will handle the supply and construction of submarine cables and execute the entire project seamlessly based on a turnkey system. This includes supplying and installing all internal and external network submarine cables for the project.
For the construction of large-scale submarine cables, collaborative experience with global developers and a strong track record are considered core factors of business stability in the industry. LS Cable & System and LS Marine Solution have accumulated substantial supply capabilities and execution expertise through multiple domestic and international projects with global developers, including Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
This selection is considered highly significant, as the global developer's adoption of a supply and construction system centered on domestic companies will accelerate the localization of core offshore wind infrastructure and enhance supply chain stability.
The Haesong Offshore Wind Power Project is a 1 GW-class initiative that involves constructing two 504 MW-class wind farms in the waters near Heuksando, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do. CIP, a global green energy investment and development company, is overseeing the overall project, while its affiliated offshore wind developer, Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), is managing project development.
Prior to signing the main contract, the two companies plan to create a detailed framework including supply schedules and technical requirements. This will help secure a stable supply system for core equipment and increase the overall stability and predictability of the project.
This project marks the first time an offshore wind cooperation model linking LS Cable & System's submarine cable technology with KEPCO E&C's power grid and EPC design capabilities is applied to an actual project. LS Cable & System, KEPCO E&C, and CIP plan to expand localization, collaborate on the supply chain, and pursue joint R&D for submarine cable operations and maintenance.
"Submarine cables are core infrastructure and are growing in importance in terms of national power grids and energy security," said Park Seung-gi, head of the Domestic Energy Sales Division at LS Cable & System. "Based on our turnkey competitiveness with LS Marine Solution, we will contribute to stable project execution and the strengthening of the domestic offshore wind supply chain."
