■ Strengthening offshore wind value chain by linking installation and maintenance with LS Marine Solution
LS Cable & System and LS Marine Solution are targeting the European offshore wind market by promoting an integrated solution that encompasses everything from the production of submarine cables to their installation and maintenance.
LS Cable & System announced on the 23rd that it was participating in WindEnergy Hamburg 2026, held in Hamburg, Germany, from September 22 to 25.
This biennial event is the world's largest wind energy exhibition, drawing major players in the wind industry such as global developers, power companies, and turbine and cable manufacturers.
LS Cable & System’s booth showcases offshore wind power grid solutions that connect wind turbines to onshore power grids. The company is introducing a full-range product lineup that covers everything from medium-voltage (MV) cables for turbines to inter-array submarine cables and extra-high-voltage submarine cables for connecting to land.
Most notable is the company’s 500 kV extra-high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) cables, the only such technology to be commercialized domestically. The 525 kV, 80°C-class HVDC submarine cables increase transmission capacity by up to 25% compared to existing 70°C-class products, making them ideal for the large-capacity transmission needs of increasingly massive and remote offshore wind farms.
LS Cable & System is strengthening its collaboration with LS Marine Solution to provide an integrated, full-cycle solution from submarine cable production, laying, and installation to inspection and maintenance. For its part, LS Marine Solution is building a massive 13,000-ton HVDC submarine cable laying vessel, slated for deployment in 2028, to increase its capacity for global offshore wind projects.
LS Cable & System is also unveiling eco-friendly materials to meet Europe's carbon reduction needs. By using recycled copper and low-carbon, recycled aluminum, the company has reduced carbon emissions from the raw material stage, positioning itself to meet the eco-friendly procurement requirements of offshore wind projects in Europe.
"Europe is a core market for LS Cable & System, as demonstrated by our securing the largest supply contract for the TenneT project, Europe's largest HVDC project," said a spokesperson for LS Cable & System. "We will continue to expand our European business by drawing on our HVDC technology and submarine installation capabilities."
