LS Cable & System is pushing forward with its superconducting technology as it ramps up expansion into the rapidly growing AI data center (AIDC) infrastructure market.
The company announced on the 1st that it has signed a memorandum of understanding for joint business cooperation with the AI Factory Frontier (AFF) consortium, which includes five companies in the GPU, power equipment, cooling, architecture, and business development sectors. The participating companies are NAEWAE Architecture, Azwell AI, Nfield Pnd, WOOJIN M&E, and ILJIN E&S, and the AFF proposes integrated solutions to business operators by linking them with the AIDC solutions of these companies.
With the AFF, LS Cable & System plans to discover new business opportunities by reviewing the power requirements and site conditions of customers from the initial project stages. It will also propose comprehensive power infrastructure solutions encompassing everything from external power grids to internal power distribution and communication networks. This will involve connecting superconducting systems to external grids while utilizing busducts and optical cables for internal networks.
LS Cable & System’s superconducting system—the first in the world to make it to market—is a core differentiating technology for AIDC power infrastructure. It can transmit power at a level equivalent to 154 kV high voltage using only 23 kV medium voltage, which allows existing substations to be utilized. This significantly reduces construction costs and minimizes the installation space required for power infrastructure.
AFF companies will support AIDC construction by drawing on their specialized capabilities in each sector: architectural design for NAEWAE Architecture, GPUs and AI infrastructure platforms for Azwell AI, power equipment construction for WOOJIN M&E, business development for Nfield Pnd, and cooling and renewable energy facilities for ILJIN E&S.
Recently, LS Cable & System has been supplying products to global big tech and Neocloud AIDCs alongside Gaon Cable and LS Eco Energy. By joining this consortium, the company has positioned itself to expand beyond simple product supply to proposing holistic power infrastructure solutions from the very beginning of AIDC projects.
