Gaon Cable (CEO Jeong Hyun) announced on the 2nd that it is targeting further growth in the AI power infrastructure market by expanding the application of its low-friction power distribution cables to AI data centers (AIDCs).
With their improved sheath material, these low-friction cables reduce installation friction by approximately 30% compared to existing products. This can extend the installation distance by up to 45%, thereby cutting labor and construction costs.
With the increasing use of busducts to supply large-capacity power in AIDCs, power distribution cables are also being used in certain sections according to design and construction conditions. The company expects low-friction cables to enhance the constructability and economic feasibility of AIDC power infrastructure.
Gaon Cable supplied low-friction cables to North American semiconductor plants last year, and is now expanding to AIDCs. By adding this low-friction technology, which has already been verified in semiconductor plants, to its product lineup, the company has strengthened its position in the AIDC sector.
Globally, only a select few companies in North America and Europe produce and supply low-friction power distribution cables, and Gaon Cable has completed patent registration for its core material technology.
By leveraging the technological competitiveness of LS Cable & System and the local business capabilities of its US subsidiary, LSCUS, Gaon Cable has been supplying AIDC busducts to US big tech and AI cloud providers, and recently supplied low-voltage (LV) cables for a US big tech company's AIDC power plant. Meanwhile, LSCUS is also seeing an increase in orders for medium-voltage (MV) cables used to connect substations and AIDC campuses. By expanding its AIDC power infrastructure product lineup to encompass everything from busducts to LV and MV cables, the company anticipates accelerated growth in the market.
