Gaon Cable (CEO Jeong Hyun) is fast-tracking the expansion of its renewable energy business by entering the floating solar market. 

The company announced on the 14th that it will supply approximately KRW 17 billion worth of ACF cables to major domestic floating solar projects, including the Seokmun Lake Floating Solar Power Project and the Saemangeum Haetbit Nanum Project. 

This marks Gaon Cable's first order for a floating solar project, as well as the first time that ACF cables are being used in the floating solar field. The company previously supplied ACF cables to the Bigeumdo onshore solar project in 2023. 

ACF cables are piping-integrated, featuring a protective aluminum sheath around the exterior. They can be laid without separate piping, which simplifies the construction process and shortens the overall construction period. 

Gaon Cable has been developing large-scale and long-distance products in response to the increasing size of floating solar farms. These solutions are tailored to the unique characteristics of floating solar, where construction takes place on the water, and are designed to enhance both constructability and maintenance efficiency. 

The government is promoting large-scale floating solar projects domestically, with plans to build a 1.2 GW farm in Saemangeum by 2030. With this contract under its belt, Gaon Cable plans to aggressively target the domestic floating solar market and participate in more follow-up projects. 

Gaon Cable is currently expanding its high-value-added special cable business, with a focus on large-scale power infrastructure markets such as AI data centers, solar power facilities, and power plants. The company aims to strengthen its market competitiveness by promoting its differentiated product lineup, which includes ACF and low-friction cables, and cable buses.
